I had to chuckle when i read an article about five students expelled for sniffing aerosol cans on school grounds when the article revealed that the school motto is “Ï strive for the highest”. Great to have them putting in so hard to achieve the motto!

Here i am trying to get coverage of the womens sprint or even the womens basketball and despite channel 7 being the main broadcaster, sbs a complementary broadcaster and abc with coverage on the radio. Instead i am reduced to reading the commentary in a chat room.

Over the course of the last month Blockbuster here has been hammering Juno as their movie of the month and while I usually avoid the whole teen movie scene as its painful and annoying usually.

In this case i am glad i took the risk. The best way to describe it is bizarely enjoyable and funny. Its a quirky account of a 16 year old (Juno) who finds that she is pregnant after spending some time with her best friend in a chair. She initially decides to get rid of it but then settles on the idea of giving the baby up for adoption.

I won’t say more than that but its definitely worth the look as its got a lot of laugh in a well told story. I am going to see it again one day soon.

Well here we are well into the Olympics and i don’t know about anywhere else but watching the games here in Australia you could be just about mistaken for not realising that there was much going on other than swimming going on. Even more so the event has for us Aussies been dominated by the great performance of Stephanie Rice who has won two individual gold medals and another gold for relay gold with all three in world record time. Until these games i had only seen the media circus surrounding her and her ex boyfriend Eamon Sullivan so it is pleasing to discover that she is so down to earth and a pleasure to listen to.

For me I more a fan of other sports and in particular the basketball, hockey and football which has been a challenge, the coverage is revolving around the swimming, diving and gymnastics. Sadly Australia is out of the soccer and on the way out of mens basketball so i just got to pin my viewing hopes on the Opals, Australia’s womens basketball team and our hockey teams!

Oh and one other thing. Comme On Aussie!

The tv coverage of the Olympics here has been giving me the shits this afternoon. Channel 7 broke away to cover the AFL again here which is ok, I could still watch the SBS coverage but from the return both 7 and sbs have been covering the women’s cycling road race which is ok, i want to watch it unless there is something better on!

Well day one of the olympics and i have spent most of the time in front of the tv watching one sport or another. I watch using the timeshift function of my hdd recorder so i can fast forward the sports i don’t like.

I did also catch some of the opening ceremony and watch i saw was impressive. I was in the pub from where i ended up after work on friday. I got home before Australia marched out (third from last) but i also fell asleep before that point and only woke up around 6am with the tv still on and the dog happily still asleep on my bed too. I am not a huge fant of the march by anyway. After the first few countries i am ready for something else.

Patriotic National Pride Installed and Ready to go

Well, its Olympic time all over again and no doubt the whole country will be under a patriotic cloud of feeling good about ourselves. Us Aussies are nothing if not a sporting mad nation and we do like to win. Our national psyche likes to see us as the underdog as a small nation (population wise) and what makes it all the better when we do win.

Its a little confusing though, the opening ceremony is tomorrow and here i am watching the football with Australia vs Serbia tonight. Hopefully its not the only game they are in before being eliminated!

Wonder if i can string two together?

I had one of those days at work today. It can best be described as … good. Yes i know that it comes as a shock as i don’t

My good day was telling three of our newest staff that they are moving up in the world, their pay has gone up by a huge chunk of money and they have a contract for the next 12 months. Feels good to do something like that as it will really make the day of who ever does the telling.

It made the rest of the day although flat out feel that little bit better than it would have otherwise have been.

Wonder if i can string two together?

I have had a decent day as far as work days go although i guess it helps that i was on a course for the whole day rather than being at work,. The course itself got off to a rocky start with the first 15 minutes looking like it was going to be the longest and most painful experience ever, but after that it shaped up ok.

I am looking forward to applying the stuff i have learnt to work sometime soon, might just have to drop it into conversation with the boss (if you don’t look out for yourself then nobody will!)

Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right

I have had a bit of the song stuck in my head today although until i looked up the lyrics i couldn’t remember which side the clowns and jokers belonged on. I am not sure why because its not as if i have even heard the song recently

Ironically it was an appropriate song to sum up my day at work today as it really did seem that i had clowns on one side and jokers on the other. Not for any single reason but just rather the way that it seemed to me anyway!
