The X-Files - I want to believe
I saw the X-Files movie today on a whim since i was across the road from the cinemas. I didn’t go in with particularly high hopes as i had long ago given up on the X-files (i guess i didn’t want to believe at the time) but i am happy to say it exceeded my hopes considerably.
Now don’t get me wrong, its not the greatest movie ever made or even the best i have seen this month. But it was an enjoyable enough movie that bordered on creepy and delved into the relationship between Scully and Mulder.
The story itself picks up with Mulder having gone way off the rails and off the radar while Scully is practicing medicine in a Catholic Hospital and the FBI has a problem as one of their agents is missing, having fallen prey to the attention of what seems to be a kidnapper or serial killer. Their only lead is the visions of a fallen priest paedophile played by Billy Connolly.
I don’t want to drop too many spoilers so i won’t say too much other than that there is a catch to the whole movie. It contains many times the recommended daily dose of symbolism with religion against science against the unexplained. Or something like that. Enjoy in moderation!
