I’m not staying in 1408

This might come as a shock with everything that i watch but i am not a big fan of scary movies. They don’t normally scare me and if they are based on a book they they loose some of the subtle (and not so subtle) plot turns along the way.

Yet tonight I find myself sitting on the bed watching a horror movie by the name of 1408 more for the fact i am a big fan of John Cusack and Samuel L Jackson and i only noticed later that it is based on a Stephen King story.

The story centres around Mike Enslin (John Cusack) who was once a good author but after the death of his young daughter he became obsessed with the paranormal and tours the world staying in places that are supposedly haunted and uses the colourful background material for his novels. One day a post card arrives for him telling him that no one stays the night in 148 and it gets his attention. Despite the repeated warnings of the hotel manager Gerald Olin (Samuel L Jackson), Enslin insists on staying in the room and while nothing seems amiss at first, the room itself takes on a life of its own and torments him with visions from his own past.

The film I found had a way of creeping me out which is a change compared to most movies in the horror/suspense type genre which pack the movie with ghostly effects , gore and cheap suprises to pop out from the shadows.
I don’t want to drop in any spoilers so I will not reveal more. If you like to have the chance to be creeped out then this is the movie.

Oh and better not to watch it alone.

PS Don’t stay in room 1408 at the Dolphin Hotel
